Renowned for his roles in films such as ‘Pyaar Ka Punchnama’ and the web-series ‘Mirzapur’, Divyendu Sharma has reportedly made the decision to distance himself from the latter. Despite rising to nationwide fame with his portrayal of Munna Bhaiyya, the actor recently confirmed his absence from the highly anticipated third season, leaving many fans disappointed. Citing concerns over the increasingly dark trajectory of his character, Sharma explained his choice to step away from the show.
While his character met his demise in the second season, fans held out hope for a dramatic return, given Munna Bhaiyya’s immense popularity. However, putting an end to speculations, Divyendu Sharma reaffirmed his decision to forego reprising the role in an interview with Humans of Bombay. “On Humans of Bombay, I shall declare, I am not a part of Mirzapur Season 3,” he stated unequivocally. Delving into the rationale behind his choice, Sharma highlighted the toll that delving deeply into the character took on his psyche. “When I was in character, it was affecting my personality a lot. We shouldn’t over-romanticize going too deep into a character, because it is not easy,” he elaborated. “At times, it used to get really dark for me. I felt suffocated. It’s so tricky that you don’t even realize that you are in that zone. It’s only when you come out of it do you realize how dark it was.”
For those unfamiliar with his character, Munna Bhaiyya embodied the power-hungry persona of a mafia don’s son, willing to resort to any means to achieve his objectives.
On the cinematic front, Divyendu Sharma recently showcased his talent in a lead role alongside Pratik Gandhi and Avinash Tiwary in the Kunal Kemmu directorial ‘Madgaon Express’.
Sharma’s decision to bid farewell to the iconic role of Munna Bhaiyya marks a significant shift in his career trajectory, signaling his commitment to preserving his mental well-being amidst the demanding world of showbiz. As fans eagerly anticipate Mirzapur Season 3, they do so with an understanding of Sharma’s thoughtful decision and an appreciation for his dedication to his craft.
