Varun Badola Opens Up on Facing Major Financial Hardships: Says ‘bankruptcy Kept Knocking at My Door’

Mere Dad ki Dulhan fame Varun Badola disclosed how bankruptcy came knocking his door. Revealed how his wife, actress Rajeshwari Sachdev helped him during his tough phase.

Varun Badola has appeared on Indian television for almost two decades now. He was a heartthrob of Indian Television at a time when TV was at it was peak. He had started his career with Apni Baat.

Varun has claimed that he is not spendthrift but as he don’t work round the clock, his savings have come to depletion every few years. Things became so terrible that he had less than Rs 2 lakh in his bank account a decade ago.

In a recent podcast, Varun shared, “I work for six months every two years, and then I don’t have work for two years.” He went on to add, “Bankruptcy keeps knocking at my door every few years, and then I have to tell myself to find work quickly. People ask me why I don’t work regularly, but if you notice, most actors around the world aren’t working non-stop.” Varun said that despite everything, he’s proud that he has been consistently working in television for over two decades, and that too in prominent roles. “Sometimes, I’ll admit I feel like I could’ve had a bigger car, a bigger house, but surviving for 30 years in the industry is more important than having a big car.”

Varun further recalled things that became extremely challenging for him and said, “This one time, I was worried that I wouldn’t get any sort of work again. The industry was changing, and I started wondering what else I could do… I was actually down to one and a half or two months of savings. I would’ve had no more than Rs 2 lakh in my bank account. This was in around 2015. It was me, my wife, our four-year-old child, my parents, and two dogs. It was a family of seven, and most people don’t realise this, but when you have a young child at home, your expenses go through the roof. And then you add the dogs; it’s very expensive to take care of them. I was almost down to my last penny.”

Varun Badola was paid Rs 18,000 per episode for the show Rabba Ishq Naa Hov which was one of the highest-paid of that time. When he was participated in Nach Baliye in 2004 he was paid 16 lakh for the show. Then the things took a drastic turn when Television started to change. His chemistry with Shweta Tiwari was loved by all on Television in Sony TV’s Mere Dad ki Dulhan. We hope to see the actor doing more work in the upcoming years.
