Ankita Lokhande is one of the top five highest-paid actors. She will next be seen in Randeep Hooda’s epic drama Swantantra Veer Savarkat. She opened up to News18 and talked about remuneration for female actors and prioritising characters over money.
Ankita Lokhande became a household name for her character of Archana opposite to late Sushant Singh Rajput in a popular TV show Pavitra Rishta. She have also acted in films like Manikarnika and Baaghi 3.
Ankita admitted that money isn’t her first priority. The acted said, “For me, money has always been secondary. The character I’m playing is the most important thing. Even now, I don’t run after money. I always go after the project. I’m ready to do films and shows for free. Having said that, I believe that you need to ask for what you want. And women, particularly, should ask for what they deserve.”
In a recent interaction with India Today, Ankita said, , “I don’t want to be seen everywhere. I want to exclusively be part of certain things. That’s how I want to roll, that’s how I like things. I want to do very different kinds of roles. That also gives me confidence that I can go through such challenging parts. I don’t want to be part of a rat race. I don’t want to run. I do not have a problem with people who do that, but it’s not meant for me. Whatever comes my way, I will pick the best out of the lot. I am very choosy and pick my work wisely. I may make mistakes, but that’s going to be my decision only.”
Ankita by praising the TV producers for improving the pay scale to female actors said, “Of course, the situation is way better for women on television today. My remuneration improved because I was on television and television is all about women-led stories and women’s power. I don’t know about the film industry but I’m definite about television when it comes to this aspect,”
She also added, “And that’s helping a lot of women who are now working on television. The industry has grown so much over the years. When I started working on Pavitra Rishta , I was earning Rs 2000 a day. From there, my growth has been steady,”
