Parents of students at a private school in Hebbal, Bengaluru, have raised serious concerns over a chapter in a 7th-grade textbook that includes detailed information about actress Tamannaah Bhatia. Traditionally, school textbooks have focused on historical figures such as kings, emperors, and significant events. However, with changing times, the inclusion of contemporary figures from the entertainment industry has sparked debate. This controversy began when the school introduced a chapter on the Sindhi community that prominently features the lives and careers of Tamannaah Bhatia and actor Ranveer Singh under the title “Life of Indian People After the Partition of Sindhi.”

The chapter, which discusses the impact of the Partition on the Sindhi community from 1947 to 1962, includes sections about the lives and careers of Tamannaah Bhatia and Ranveer Singh. This addition has left many parents in shock. Concerned about the appropriateness of the content for 7th graders, parents approached the Karnataka State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the Associated Management of Primary and Secondary Schools in Karnataka, demanding an explanation for the inclusion of Bollywood actors in educational materials. One parent expressed their frustration by filing a formal complaint, stating that while they have no issue with introducing children to different cultures, they believe including a chapter about a contemporary actress is not suitable for young students. Another parent highlighted their concern that if children search for Tamannaah Bhatia online, they might encounter inappropriate content not suitable for their age. Some parents even reported being threatened with the issuance of transfer certificates for their children if they continued to object to the curriculum.
D. Shashi Kumar, the General Secretary of the association representing the school, responded to the controversy by pointing out that any content included in the textbooks must receive approval from the relevant educational board. He urged parents to direct their complaints to the board responsible for approving the curriculum. Kumar emphasized that it is crucial for parents to voice their concerns through the appropriate channels to address the issue effectively.
