In her candid account, Muneer described her harrowing experiences and the profound impact they had on her life and career. According to reports, Muneer experienced both physical and verbal abuse from multiple individuals within the industry. Notably, she mentioned facing inappropriate conduct from a well-known actor who also held a political position, having served twice as a representative for the CPI(M) in Kerala’s Assembly. Muneer indicated that the distressing incidents ultimately compelled her to leave the Malayalam film industry.

One of the most shocking incidents she recounted involved an actor from the films Calendar (2009) and Nadakame Ulakam (2011). Muneer revealed that during the shoots of these films, the actor attempted to sexually assault her. She described a particularly disturbing encounter where the actor forcibly entered her room, pulling her onto the bed and suggesting that she would need to “consider those who have to be considered” to secure better opportunities in her career. This incident left her feeling deeply violated and led her to flee the location.

In addition to this traumatic episode, Muneer recounted another unsettling experience involving a different actor. She shared that while traveling by car, the actor made an unsolicited advance, telling her he would visit her room the following night. Despite her clear discomfort, the actor continued to pursue her, even knocking on her door late at night.

Further elaborating on her experiences, Muneer described an incident that occurred during a shooting in the state capital. She reported that an actor, whom she did not name, grabbed her from behind and kissed her as she was returning from a restroom. Although she managed to push him away and escape, the actor’s subsequent invitation to his flat, which she rejected, did not lead to further issues.

Muneer also recounted a distressing encounter from 2013 when she sought membership in the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). She explained that an actor in a significant position within the organization behaved inappropriately towards her. During a phone call to discuss the membership application process, the actor invited her to his flat. While she was filling out the application form, he kissed her neck from behind, prompting her to flee the premises in distress. This incident not only denied her the membership but also marked a significant low point in her career.

These experiences, marked by repeated harassment and abuse, eventually led Muneer to make the difficult decision to leave the Malayalam film industry and relocate to Chennai. She expressed her ongoing desire for “justice and accountability” for the suffering and trauma she has endured over the years. Her revelations have added a significant voice to the ongoing discourse initiated by the Hema Committee Report, which has brought to light the widespread issue of sexual misconduct in the Malayalam film industry.

As Muneer continues to seek justice, her story serves as a powerful reminder of the need for systemic change within the industry. It underscores the importance of creating a safe and respectful environment for all professionals, free from harassment and abuse. The courage of individuals like Muneer, who share their stories despite the risks involved, plays a crucial role in challenging entrenched norms and advocating for meaningful reforms.
