The film is uniquely set between the 1950s and 1970s, transporting viewers to a bygone era with meticulous attention to detail. A source close to the production reveals, “The film is set between the 1950s and 1970s. An entire world of Toxic has been created — a larger-than-life version of that era, yet very authentic. The set is situated on the outskirts of Bangalore, and the level of detail is something that will blow the audience’s mind.” This historical setting is crucial to the narrative, which revolves around the dark and gripping world of the drug mafia.

Toxic was officially announced in December 2023 and is slated for release on April 10, 2025. The film’s development has seen some interesting casting changes. Initially, there were reports that Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan would make her South Indian cinema debut in Toxic, playing Yash’s sister. However, she later opted out, and Nayanthara, who had recently debuted in Bollywood with Shah Rukh Khan in Jawan, stepped in to take the role. Additionally, actor Sai Pallavi was initially linked to the project but was eventually replaced by Shruti Haasan, who will play Yash’s love interest.

The ambitious scale of Toxic is evident not just in its casting and set design but also in its narrative scope. Geetu Mohandas, known for her distinctive storytelling style, is expected to bring a fresh and compelling perspective to this action-oriented drama. The film’s blend of historical authenticity with a larger-than-life presentation aims to create a visually stunning and emotionally engaging experience for the audience.

The choice of Bangalore as the filming location adds another layer of authenticity and appeal to the project. Known for its rich history and cultural heritage, Bangalore provides a fitting backdrop for a story set in the mid-20th century. The elaborate sets constructed on the city’s outskirts are designed to reflect the opulence and grit of the era, promising a visual treat that complements the film’s intense storyline.
