Yash, the celebrated Kannada superstar, has embarked on an exciting new project, Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups, which promises to be a gripping period drama. Directed by the critically acclaimed filmmaker Geetu Mohandas, this film is set against the evocative backdrop of the 1940s and spans several decades, reflecting the complex and turbulent history of that era. The project is one of the most ambitious undertakings in recent Indian cinema, featuring a star-studded ensemble cast and a meticulously constructed set that aims to transport viewers back in time. The film’s production began in June 2024, and after a brief hiatus, the team resumed filming in September 2024. Despite the challenges that come with such an extensive production, the team has remained committed to the vision of creating an authentic portrayal of the time period. Toxic is currently scheduled for a theatrical release on April 10, 2025, and expectations are high given the talent involved and the scale of the project.

Yash leads the cast in this period drama, taking on the role of an enigmatic protagonist whose life intersects with several intriguing female characters. His character, described as a stylish gangster, is a significant departure from the roles Yash has portrayed in the past. This shift in character is expected to showcase his versatility as an actor and add a fresh dimension to his already impressive body of work. Joining him on screen are some of the leading ladies of Indian cinema, including Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Tara Sutaria, and Huma Qureshi. Each of these actresses will play pivotal roles, bringing their unique talents to the film and adding depth to the narrative. Nayanthara is reportedly playing the role of Yash’s on-screen sister, while Kiara Advani will portray his love interest, adding layers of emotional complexity to the storyline.

One of the most remarkable aspects of Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-ups is the scale of its production. According to reports from Mid-Day, the film’s set is a sprawling 20-acre recreation of the 1940s, located on the outskirts of Bengaluru. The production design team has spared no effort in ensuring that every detail is historically accurate, from the costumes and props to the architecture of the buildings. This attention to detail is crucial in creating an immersive experience for the audience, allowing them to fully engage with the world of the film.

The production itself is a massive operation, with over 1,000 crew members working tirelessly to bring the director’s vision to life. This includes a diverse team of craftsmen, designers, and technical experts, all dedicated to creating a world that is both authentic and visually stunning. Additionally, 450 actors have been hired to populate this meticulously crafted world, adding to the film’s sense of scale and authenticity. Among them, 300 foreign support actors have been brought in for a crucial sequence, further emphasizing the film’s global appeal and ambition.

Shooting such a large-scale film has not been without its challenges. The team has faced several obstacles, including the unpredictable weather. A significant portion of the film was shot outdoors, and heavy rains frequently interrupted the filming process. Despite these setbacks, the cast and crew remained undeterred, often working through the night to ensure that the production stayed on schedule. Their dedication to the project is evident in the quality of the footage that has been captured so far, and it bodes well for the final product.
