Bollywood star Vidya Balan says, Mumbai it’s time for women to “break free and do more fun stuff” in cinemas. She believes that it is the right moment for such stories to be explored after the success of ‘Crew’.

In an interview with PTI Balan said, “Female-led cinema is still in its nascent stage. I did ‘Ishqiya’ in 2008. That was an aberration at that time, and then slowly things started changing. I feel in the past 15-16 years, we’ve seen lots of women-led films.
“Now, it’s the right time for us to break free and do more fun stuff, we are taking ourselves so seriously. It’s time to step into the next phase, which is where you don’t take yourself seriously. I love that,” Vidya had starred in the movies like Ishqiya, The Dirty Picture, Kahaani, Sherni and Jalsa.
She is constantly looking for something new to do said the National Award winning actress.
“I’m someone who is very impatient, gets restless and I feel like, ‘I need something new to keep me challenged and motivated’… I want to do out-an-out comedy, then negative and then I’m happy to do anything. Someone please write an out-an-out comedy .”
Vidya is to fulfil her wish by doing her first romantic comedy movie, “Do Aur Do Pyaar” after a decade. The film also stars Pratik Gandhi as her co star. The film has a humorous take on love and extra-marital affairs. The movie is helmed by Shirsha Guha Thakurta. The film also stars Illeana D’Cruz and Sendhil Ramamurthy.
Vidya’s last rom-com was with Farham Akthar in 2014’s film “Shaadi Ke Side Effects”. Balan said, “For some reason, films have become intense, they are either action packed or thrillers and dark. Where are the love stories? I’m thrilled that I got this opportunity because I feel it’s time for lightness, joy, and romance,” Some of her favourite films in the genre are,
“Jab We Met”, “Runaway Bride”, “Four Weddings and a Funeral”, “Marley & Me” and “PS. I Love You” she added.
According to Vidya Balan, Tears, laughter and good music are essential components of a successful romantic comedy film.
Vidya said abou Ramamurthy, “He’s a gentleman, so soft spoken, and doesn’t take his good looks seriously, which is the most charming thing about him,” “I had watched ‘Scam’ before I met him and it’s so amazing that someone who looked like he was born to play that role , is doing this with so much ease and effortlessness… He is amazing in the film,” she added.
