In a recent interview, Sharmin Segal, known for her role in the Netflix series “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” reminisced about her encounter with Salman Khan, where he jokingly proposed marriage to her when she was just a toddler.
Recalling the incident, Sharmin mentioned that her first meeting with a celebrity was during the shoot of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 1999 film “Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.” She was around two or three years old at the time, and Salman Khan playfully asked her, “Will you marry me?” To which, young Sharmin promptly responded with a firm “No!”
Reflecting on her response, Sharmin explained that, being so young, she didn’t fully understand the concept of marriage and simply said no to everything. Even now, she admits to being a fan of Salman Khan’s iconic song “O O Jaane Jaana” from the 1998 film “Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya,” indicating her enduring admiration for the actor despite their humorous exchange years ago.
Sharmin, who tied the knot with businessman Aman Mehta in November 2023, humorously emphasized the absurdity of the situation, given her tender age at the time. She quipped, “I was about two years old! I said no to everything!”
Currently, Sharmin is garnering acclaim for her role in “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,” a period drama directed by her uncle, Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The series delves into the lives of courtesans in pre-partition Lahore and features a star-studded cast, including Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjeeda Sheikh, Aditi Rao Hydari, and Richa Chadha.
“Heeramandi” has been well-received by audiences and critics alike, with its compelling narrative and stellar performances earning praise. Sharmin’s portrayal adds depth to the ensemble cast, further solidifying her position as a talented actor in the industry.
In essence, Sharmin Segal’s anecdote about Salman Khan’s playful proposal serves as a charming glimpse into her early interactions with Bollywood royalty, highlighting the lighthearted moments that shape her journey in the entertainment industry.
