“Ramayan is not that. It is the story of Ram, that is why it is titled Ramayan.” He also said that since centuries, locals have been performing Ramleelas in which they follow the proper story completely.
Amrit used to roam around the sets of his grandfather when he was just 13. Sagar didn’t mention which adaptation wasn’t upto the mark but said that one who will attempt to make it must “follow the story to the tee.”
According to Amrit, Ramayana is not just a story but is a part of lives of many people. Amrit finally said, “It’s sacrilege. You don’t do that kind of stuff. Follow the text according to how it’s been written and then try and do your honest work in that given space. You can’t hurt the sentiments of so many people, that’s wrong”.
Last year, Om Raut tried to adapt Ramayana in his film Adipurush. The film turned to be a disaster. Amrit Sagar spoke to Indian Express about what he expects from Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram. He also shared his opinion about Adipurush.
Amrit said, “It’s not just a story, it’s a part of people’s life. Living in cities and metros, we actually forget that there’s a big segment of India that reads Ramayana every day and knows the text verbatim. For us to try and change something written eons ago that has been accepted as a granth… It’s like trying to change The Bible. It’s sacrilege. You don’t do that… Follow the text how it’s been written and then try to do your honest work in that given space. You can’t hurt the sentiments of so many people; that’s wrong.”
Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana is to be a two-part movie. In the film, Ranbir Kapoor portrays the role of Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi is Goddess Sita, KGF star Yash portrays Ravana, and Sunny Deol is in the role Lord Hanuman. The movie is to be completed by the end of 2025.
