The dry spell in Bollywood is anticipated to conclude next week with the release of “Mr & Mrs Mahi,” featuring Rajkummar Rao and Janhvi Kapoor. The much-awaited film is slated to hit theaters on Friday, May 31. Notably, the filmmakers completed the censor certification process well in advance, ensuring a smooth release. In an unexpected turn of events, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has approved the film without any cuts. Additionally, it has been awarded a ‘U’ certificate, making it suitable for universal viewing.
A source revealed, “It is very rare for a film nowadays to get a ‘U’ certificate as the content tends to include elements like action, intimacy, etc., which might not be ideal for family viewing. Moreover, even if a film gets a ‘U’ rating, there are usually some cuts imposed. For instance, this happened with the film Srikanth, released earlier this month, which also starred Rajkummar Rao. Although it received a ‘U’ certificate, the filmmakers had to make modifications in two scenes.”
The source continued, “In the case of ‘Mr & Mrs Mahi,’ the film was given a clean ‘U’ rating. The Examining Committee of the CBFC did not feel the need to cut, modify, or reduce any scene or dialogue. They only requested the filmmakers to present the title and end credits in Hindi. Additionally, the committee asked the makers to submit references of consultation for the cricket-related content, which the filmmakers promptly provided.”
Once these requirements were fulfilled, the censor certificate was handed over to the producers of “Mr & Mrs Mahi” on May 21. The film’s duration, as stated on the censor certificate, is 139 minutes, translating to 2 hours and 19 minutes.
“Mr & Mrs Mahi” is directed by Sharan Sharma, who made his directorial debut with “Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl” in 2020. The film is produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions in collaboration with Zee Studios. The storyline revolves around a cricket-enthusiastic couple and the transformative journey they embark on when the husband decides to train his wife in cricket. This engaging narrative promises to capture the hearts of audiences with its unique premise and compelling performances.
The film’s seamless passage through the CBFC without any edits is a testament to its wholesome content, making it a rare gem in contemporary cinema. With its family-friendly rating and intriguing storyline, “Mr & Mrs Mahi” is poised to attract a wide range of viewers, marking a significant end to the dry season in Bollywood and setting the stage for a vibrant cinematic experience.
