Director Shekhar Kapur Hints About The Re-Release Of Anil Kapoor’s Hit Mr. Indian; Report

Director Shekhar Kapur took to his social media and asked fans that if they would re-watch the 1987 blockbuster Mr. Indian on theaters.

It seems like 2024 is the year of re-releases. Recently movies Laila Majnu and Rockstar was re-released and got success. It has been noticed by the producers that the cult movies have enough potential to pull the crowd back again to theaters that too after years of the release of the original movie.

Mr. India, another classic movie might be the part of the list. Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur has hinted about the return of his 1987 sci-fi blockbuster in the big screen. The movie starred Anil Kapoor, Sridevi, and Amrish Puri. The film Mr. India is considered an evergreen film because of its legendary characters, iconic dialogues, and amazing music.

On Wednesday, Kapur took to his social media where he asked that if fans would want to re-watch Mr. Indian in big screen. He shared the poster of the film along with his own picture on X, wrote, “I have a question for the fans of Mr India .. how many of you have seen it on the big screen? Kapur also tagged the producer of the film, Boney Kapoor, in the post. After watching Kapur’s post, fans got excited, as it comes at a time when audiences are flocking to the theaters to watch their favorite classics. After Laila Majnu and Rockstar, Gangs of Wasseypur and Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein have been confirmed to get a re-release. As per the reports Tumbbad, which got its due on OTT after a box office failure, might also be screened in cinemas soon.

Fans have said a big ‘yes’ to Shekhar Kapur’s question on X. A fan wrote, “I watched it on big screen then and on small screen many times since. It’ll be great to re-release this evergreen classic on big screen! Mogambo khush hoga.” Another replied, “I have seen Mr India on VCR tape several times in its early days. Would love to watch it on big screen.” It has not yet been confirmed when the producer will decide the film to re-release the film in big screen.

Mr. India is considered a landmark film in Indian cinema for its superhero genre. This had rarely been attempted before. The movie also had Anil Kapoor, Sridevi and Amrish Puri’s unforgettable performances as Mr. India, Seema Soni, and Mogambo, respectively. This provided them with critical acclaim and international stardom. The film was made on a budget of ₹3.5 crore and earned ₹10 crore during its original box-office run. This was a remarkable feat in 1987.
