Mukesh Chhabra stands as one of India’s most renowned casting directors, his illustrious career punctuated by successes like “Dangal,” “Bajrangi Bhaijaan,” and the recent sensation “Amar Singh Chamkila.” Transitioning from behind the scenes to the director’s chair, he made his mark with “Dil Bechara,” a poignant film that became synonymous with the late Sushant Singh Rajput, marking his final cinematic journey before his untimely demise in 2020. Released for free on Disney+ Hotstar, the film served as a heartfelt tribute to the beloved actor.
Recent speculation has been rife about a potential sequel to “Dil Bechara,” fueled by a viral post and the ever-churning mill of rumors. In a recent interaction, Mukesh Chhabra addressed the curiosity surrounding his next directorial venture. When probed about his upcoming project, Chhabra teased, “That is going to be your headline. The thing that you are waiting for, I won’t tell you (laughs).” His response was wrapped in anticipation, hinting at a brewing excitement surrounding his next cinematic endeavor. With a meticulous approach, Chhabra emphasized the importance of finalizing details before divulging further information, citing an ongoing process underway.
However, quashing speculations of a direct sequel, Chhabra clarified that his next directorial venture wouldn’t bear the title “Dil Bechara 2.” He acknowledged the profound emotional resonance attached to the original film and its association with Sushant Singh Rajput. “There are a lot of emotions attached with that movie,” he explained. “We are all very emotional about that film and Sushant. So, we won’t title it as Dil Bechara 2. I want to keep the love and respect for that film separately.”
In the meantime, Mukesh Chhabra finds himself amidst accolades for his casting prowess in Imtiaz Ali’s “Amar Singh Chamkila.” The film, now streaming on Netflix, has captivated audiences with its compelling performances, particularly those of Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra. As Chhabra navigates through the intricacies of his next directorial venture, his commitment to honoring the legacy of “Dil Bechara” and Sushant Singh Rajput remains unwavering.
