Sunny Deol and JP Dutta are teaming up once again for “Border 2,” a sequel announced 27 years after the first film’s blockbuster success.
Following the triumph of “Gadar 2,” Sunny Deol has surged in popularity, becoming one of the busiest stars in Bollywood with a slew of upcoming projects. Among the most highly anticipated is “Border 2,” slated to revisit the patriotic fervor that made its predecessor a box office sensation in 1997. Directed by JP Dutta, who helmed the original, the sequel marks the return of Sunny Deol in a pivotal role as Major Kuldeep. In a recent interview with Etimes, JP Dutta shared insights into the storyline and themes of “Border 2.” He revealed that the film will delve into other battles fought during the 1971 India-Pakistan war, emphasizing the enduring relevance of stories highlighting the bravery and heroism of the armed forces. Dutta attributed the success of “Border” to its portrayal of valor and the inspiring nature of India’s armed forces. He remarked, “Our armed forces are so inspiring with everything they do that if the emotion is caught and portrayed the right way, it can create magic in the hearts of people.”
JP Dutta emphasized that “Border 2” will resonate with chest-thumping patriotism, maintaining the sensibilities that attracted audiences to his previous films and stirred a desire among many to join the Indian Army. The script for the sequel was penned by his daughter, Nidhi, two years ago, underscoring its long-awaited journey to the screen.
Anurag Singh is set to direct “Border 2,” which reportedly features Ayushmann Khurrana alongside Sunny Deol. Details regarding the shooting schedule and additional cast members are yet to be disclosed.
