Anushka Sharma recently returned to Mumbai for an event, making headlines not just for her appearance but also for her candid thoughts on parenthood. Having welcomed her second child earlier this year, the renowned Bollywood actress and her cricketer husband Virat Kohli are now parents to two children, a baby boy named Akaay and their firstborn daughter, Vamika. Anushka gave birth to their son in February 2024, marking the family’s new chapter as a happy family of four. Prior to this event, Anushka had spent some time in London, leading to speculation that the couple was considering relocating to the UK with their children. However, the actress made the journey back to India to attend a special event in Mumbai. This event, hosted by Slurrp Farm and titled the “YES Moms & Dads” event, saw Anushka in the spotlight as the special guest. Known for her work in films such as Chakda Xpress, she used the platform to discuss various topics related to parenthood, motherhood, and her experience raising her two children. During her appearance, Anushka opened up about the realities of parenting alongside her husband, Virat Kohli, admitting that despite their fame and success, they are not “perfect parents.” She emphasized that like any other parents, they make mistakes and it’s important to acknowledge those mistakes, even to their children.
Anushka shared, “We are not perfect, and we do complain about things. It’s okay to admit it to kids so they know that you are flawed. Imagine kids having to live up to, ‘Oh my parents are like this.’ Owning your mistakes makes things easier.” By being open about their imperfections, Anushka and Virat aim to create an environment where their children, Vamika and Akaay, don’t feel pressured to live up to unrealistic standards set by their parents.
In addition to discussing parenting philosophies, Anushka also touched upon how her social life has changed significantly since becoming a mother. She explained that her routine has now become tightly centered around her children’s schedules, making it difficult to socialize as freely as she used to. “I can only hang out with people who follow a routine like mine,” she admitted. Anushka recounted situations where she felt out of sync with friends and social gatherings, adding humorously, “People invite me for dinner, but I get confused because they may be eating a snack at the time Virat and I are having our dinner.” She acknowledged that occasionally, she has to let things slide to avoid alienating others, saying, “Someday, occasionally, you have to let it go, otherwise people will hate you.”
When speaking about the values she hopes to instill in her children, Anushka noted that her daughter Vamika is still very young but is already absorbing certain behaviors from her parents. For instance, Vamika has picked up on how Anushka and Virat express gratitude in their daily interactions. The actress emphasized that children learn by example, saying, “Kids need to see gratitude, and they will follow.” This focus on teaching gratitude is a key aspect of the values Anushka and Virat hope to impart to their children as they grow. Anushka and Virat are also committed to providing their children with as normal a childhood as possible, despite their celebrity status. During their time in India, the couple made a heartfelt request to the paparazzi, asking them to refrain from taking photos of their children. This decision reflects their desire to protect their kids’ privacy and shield them from the public eye. Even on social media, Anushka and Virat have made a conscious effort not to share pictures of their children, particularly avoiding any face reveals.
In sum, Anushka Sharma’s appearance at the event provided a rare glimpse into her life as a parent. Through her reflections on parenthood, she highlighted the importance of being authentic, showing gratitude, and maintaining a healthy balance between family life and social obligations. Despite their fame, Anushka and Virat continue to prioritize their children’s well-being and privacy while navigating the challenges of modern parenting.
