Renowned Bengali actor Partha Sarathi Deb, aged 68, passed away at a hospital in Kolkata after battling COPD-related ailments. According to his family, Deb breathed his last at 11:50 pm on Friday at the M R Bangur hospital, where he had been receiving treatment for the past month. His health had deteriorated significantly in the preceding week, necessitating intensive care.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences, acknowledging Deb’s distinguished career with a heartfelt message. “Sad to know of the demise of distinguished and senior actor Partha Sarathi Deb. His departure impoverishes us,” she wrote. The news of his demise has saddened many within the film industry and beyond.
Actress Rituparna Sengupta, who shared the screen with Deb in numerous films, expressed her grief, stating, “I have worked with him in so many films. Very sad news. May his soul rest in peace.” Deb was a familiar face on both the big and small screens, having appeared in a variety of feature films and television serials. His recent film credits include ‘Raktabeej’, while he also contributed to projects like ‘Kakababu Here Gelen,’ ‘Lathi,’ ‘Prem Amar,’ and ‘Bogla Mama Jug Jug Jio.’
Deb garnered widespread acclaim for his roles in popular TV dramas such as Chuni Panna and Joyee. Additionally, he served as the vice-president of the West Bengal Motion Picture Artists Forum, further establishing his influence within the industry. Following his passing, his mortal remains were brought to Technicians’ Studio, where fellow actors like Debdut Ghosh and Biswanath Basu, along with director Haranath Chakraborty, paid their final respects to the veteran actor. Deb’s legacy as a versatile and beloved performer will continue to be cherished by fans and colleagues alike.
