The highly anticipated sequel to the Malayalam blockbuster “Premalu” was officially announced on Friday by the makers. Once again, director Girish AD is set to helm the project, much to the excitement of fans. The original film, starring Naslen K Gafoor and Mamitha Baiju, garnered widespread acclaim in Kerala and beyond, making the announcement of its sequel a momentous occasion.
Titled “Premalu 2,” the sequel will see the return of the lead actors, who will reprise their beloved roles. Additionally, SS Karthikeya is set to present the Telugu version of the film, continuing his association with the franchise.
The announcement was made by Bhavana Studios, the production house behind the film, through a series of new posters shared on their Instagram account. The posters hint at a departure from the original setting of Hyderabad, featuring a starry sky backdrop against a majestic palace. It is evident that the sequel promises fresh locales and possibly new adventures for the characters. Fahadh Faasil, who was part of the original film’s production team, will also return as one of the producers for “Premalu 2.”

Expressing his gratitude to the audience, SS Rajamouli’s son, Karthikeya, who will be presenting the Telugu version, shared his excitement for the project on social media. He thanked Bhavana Studios for their support and expressed his eagerness to be part of the sequel, promising an even more captivating experience for the audience.
“Premalu” narrated the story of Sachin and Reenu, portrayed by Naslen and Mamitha respectively, as they navigate the complexities of adulthood, including love, friendships, and career aspirations. The film followed the journey of two Malayalis who relocate to Hyderabad for career opportunities and find love in each other. Apart from the lead actors, supporting cast members Sangeeth Prathap, Shyam Mohan, and Mathew Thomas also received acclaim for their performances.
As the original film concluded with Sachin departing for the UK for further studies while Reenu remained in Hyderabad for her career, fans are eager to see how the story unfolds in the sequel. Set to be released in Malayalam, Telugu, and Tamil in 2025, “Premalu 2” holds the promise of reigniting the magic of its predecessor on the silver screen.
