Bollywood luminary Aamir Khan, known for his impactful philanthropy and social advocacy, has taken legal action against a viral fake advertisement purportedly endorsing a political party ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Renowned for his founding role in the NGO Paani Foundation, alongside ex-wives Kiran Rao and Reena Dutt, and for hosting the influential show “Satyamev Jayate,” Khan has consistently championed societal change. However, a recent viral political advertisement falsely depicted him endorsing a specific party. Despite swift denials from his team, Khan has escalated the matter by filing a First Information Report (FIR) against the misleading video.
According to the Free Press Journal, the 59-year-old actor lodged the FIR with the Cyber Crime cell of the Mumbai Police. Aamir Khan’s team promptly issued a statement asserting the video’s falsity, emphasizing his longstanding commitment to non-partisanship and support for the Election Commission’s initiatives. The statement clarified, “Mr. Aamir Khan has never endorsed any political party throughout his 35-year career. He has dedicated his efforts to raising public awareness through Election Commission public awareness campaigns for many past elections.”
In the doctored video, widely circulated on social media platforms, the producer of “Laaptaa Ladies” is depicted criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) for its ’15 lakh’ scheme promise. The misleading clip alleges that the government vowed to deposit Rs 15 lakh into each citizen’s bank account. Khan’s voice is heard cautioning, “Beware of those who make false promises.” Despite the video’s dissemination, the Cyber Crime Cell has yet to take action against those responsible for creating and sharing it.
Meanwhile, on the cinematic front, Aamir Khan’s recent outing in “Laal Singh Chaddha” (2022), a remake of the acclaimed film “Forrest Gump,” received a lukewarm response from audiences. However, anticipation surrounds his forthcoming project, “Sitaare Zameen Par,” purportedly a sequel to the beloved “Taare Zameen Par.” Reports suggest the film will center on individuals with Down Syndrome, marking Khan’s much-awaited return to the silver screen.
As Khan navigates legal recourse against the false political endorsement, his dedication to societal betterment remains unwavering, echoing his enduring commitment to using his platform for positive change.
