Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the creative force behind Animal, opened up about the formidable challenges faced by outsiders in the film industry during a candid interview with Dainik Bhaskar. Reflecting on the industry’s dynamics, Vanga described the prevalent hostility as ‘animal-like behavior,’ acknowledging the uphill battle for newcomers in an industry that often resists change. Despite achieving remarkable success, Vanga candidly pointed out the struggles faced by those attempting to break into a domain that tends to favor its established members, stating, “It’s literally like animal behavior; you rebel against anybody who threatens to enter your territory.”
In the interview, Vanga touched on the sensitive issue of nepotism, particularly within awards shows. He criticized the tendency of these shows to promote individuals within their circles, stating, “Look at awards shows. They promote their own friends. Everybody knows what awards shows are like.” While cautious not to sound overly critical, Vanga hinted at personal challenges faced over the years but emphasized his reluctance to express grievances openly. Animal, featuring a star-studded cast, achieved significant acclaim in theaters but now navigates challenges for its OTT release amid complications between T-Series and producer Murad Khetani.
