Roshan’s introduction to the world of cinema came from her early visits to the sets of Koi Mil Gaya…!, a film her family was involved in. “We visited the set almost every day. I remember feeling like it’s Disneyland, like the happiest place on the planet Earth,” she recalls fondly. These formative experiences helped nurture her love for filmmaking and set the stage for her eventual career in acting.
However, Roshan’s path to becoming an actress has not been smooth. “It’s definitely been an uphill climb, and I’m sure it’s going to continue to be so, despite my last name,” she reflects. At 29, she candidly admits that the journey has been fraught with challenges. “When I was starting out, rejections would really bog me down. I would be anxious and remember crying a lot. Countless rejections later, I began to develop a new perspective and take it less personally,” she explains. Through these experiences, Roshan has developed valuable skills such as patience, perseverance, temperance, and humility. “The rejections have given me courage and confidence to get up after being knocked down. Now, I can handle rejection and setbacks with much more grace and understanding,” she adds.
Despite coming from a renowned film family, Roshan has had to navigate the industry with her own efforts and resilience. She acknowledges the pressure of living up to her family name. “I definitely feel the pressure. I am very self-critical, so it’s pressure that I mostly put on myself,” she admits. “There’s pressure to be better, to perform better, and to evolve and make a place for myself in this industry like the rest of my family has.” This self-imposed pressure highlights her commitment to carving out her own space in Bollywood, independent of her family’s influence.
When questioned about why she did not collaborate with her uncle, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, for her debut film, she shares her aspiration to work with him in the future. “It is my dream to work with him one day. He is incredible and I admire his creativity and business acumen,” Roshan says. Although they have not yet discussed any potential projects, she is hopeful. “We never discussed potential projects. But one day, I hope to be worthy enough of that discussion. I am waiting for that day with bated breath,” she adds, expressing her eagerness to collaborate with her renowned uncle when the time is right.
Roshan’s choice to debut with Ishq Vishq Rebound was influenced by her love for romantic comedies and the film’s iconic status. “The movie was so iconic and beloved that even the idea of being a part of the franchise was like a dream come true for me,” she explains.
