“Merry Christmas” emerges as a standout Bollywood film, breaking conventions with its unconventional pairing of Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathi, coupled with a unique storyline. Helmed by the acclaimed director Sriram Raghavan, known for his masterpieces like “Andhadhun” and “Badlapur,” the film garnered positive reviews from all quarters. Raghavan, in a recent interview, addressed the possibility of a sequel, stating definitively that there won’t be one. He expressed his intent to keep the movie’s charm intact as a standalone, emphasizing the importance of preserving the audience’s feelings, and the movie’s identity as a Christmas special.
Despite a slow start at the box office upon its January 12 release, “Merry Christmas” gained momentum over the weekend, propelled by word of mouth. The film’s collections tell a tale of its growing popularity – starting with Rs 2.45 crore on the first day, it rose to Rs 3.45 crore on the first Saturday and continued its ascent, reaching Rs 3.83 crore on the third day. Even on the fourth day, which was the first Monday, the film managed to rake in around Rs 1.65 crore. The cumulative box office collection now stands at an impressive Rs 11.38 crore in India within just four days, affirming the film’s success and audience appreciation.
