Legendary actress Shridevi wanted to work with Amar Singh Chamkila. Chamkila’s friend in an old interview have revealed that once Chamkila turned down Sridevi who was a huge fan of the Punjabi Singer.
Imtiaz Ali’s upcoming project is a biopic Amar Singh Chamkila. The movie stars Diljit Dosanjh and Parineeti Chopra. The film was released in Netflix on Friday. After the release of the film, an old interview of Chamkila’s friend was seen in YouTube. India Today reported that Sawarn said in the interview that Sridevi watched Chamkila’s performance and asked him to work with her in a film but he turned down her offer. He said, “Sridevi was a fan of Amar Singh Chamkila; she even asked him to be a hero in her film. But he told her he can’t speak in Hindi. She offered to get him trained in a month, but he said he would lose ₹10 lakh in that time. Sridevi then agreed to do a Punjabi film with him, but that couldn’t happen.”
Chamkila was born in Punjab as Dhanni Ram. He composed and sang polarising music with which he became famous. He even earned the moniker ‘Elvis of Punjab’. He performed with his wife Amarjot in the state. Chamkila, his wife along with two other members of their group was shot dead in March 8,1988. The case is not solved yet
Diljit’s Punjabi film Jodi (2023) was inspired by Chamkila’s life. Imtiaz’ film Amar Singh Chamkila have got decent reviews from fans and critics. The music of the film is by AR Rahman. Diljit was last seen in Crew, starring Kareena Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Tabu.
