Jamnadas AKA JD Majethia, a prominent producer in Indian television, known for hits from his banner Hats Off, is currently steering towards serious subjects for the small screen. However, his production house, in collaboration with Aatish Kapadia, has a rich history of supporting comedy shows like Khichdi and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai. JD Majethia recently hinted at the possibility of a Season 3 for the beloved Sarabhai vs Sarabhai in a conversation with Indian Express.
Addressing the inquiry about Sarabhai vs Sarabhai Season 3, JD Majethia revealed, “It is very much in mind, but for it to be on paper, there needs to be some wow factor. So if you all pray, something should come up, but Sarabhai 3 is very much on the cards.”
In the same conversation, Majethia reflected on the setbacks faced by Khichdi 2: Mission Paanthukistan. He attributed the film’s underperformance to an ill-timed release, coinciding with the World Cup final. He stated, “We released it on a weekend when the World Cup final was airing. For any small-budget film, Sunday business is very important, but for us, it was a complete washout. Secondly, our film fell prey to piracy. Many of my relatives called me and said they had seen the film at home. My office peon informed me that he saw the video a week before it was released. Piracy killed Khichdi. Animal released two weeks after Khichdi, so we had no screens.”
Despite these challenges, Majethia emphasized that Khichdi, though not a blockbuster, would continue to thrive on the small screen for a decade, as audiences are hesitant to spend money on such films. He disclosed that the film still managed to make a decent collection despite the unfavorable circumstances.
Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, a cult classic portraying the Sarabhais, an upper-class Gujarati family in South Bombay, first aired in 2004. The show’s second chapter unfolded on Disney Plus Hotstar in 2017, leaving fans eagerly awaiting a potential Season 3 after a cliffhanger ending with Monisha (Rupali Ganguly) leaving Sahil (Sumeet Raghavan) and relocating to Delhi with her son.
